June 2021 Update

Updates for this month:

  • Modularizing existing systems and elements
  • Dialogue system

Lots of updates this month!

After rounding out my cat controls last month, I spent this month creating flexible systems for the game, so that future additions/ testing could be made quickly and without having to adjust already existing stuff. I was also focused on making as many elements as I could, modular, so that objects that need to communicate with each other do not need to know about each other (therefore are not dependent and can be changed without effecting each other).

I added a dialogue system for talking to NPCs (or as I like to call them: NPCattos). There is also a fundamental shop system that can be altered to fit different types of consumables or purchasables. Though I still need to implement an inventory system. To test the shop, I also created a simple cosmetic system. Misu will be able to wear a head cosmetic, a neck cosmetic, and either an upper back or lower back cosmetic. Feel free to judge my poorly modeled head flower and floppy wings that took me much longer then they should have.

Last month, I also purchased a very fun asset called Boing Kit that adds fun boingy physics to models. It alone added so much quality and movement. I added it to Misu’s tail so it wasn’t so stiff. I added it to the cosmetics. It also came with other features that allowed me to make the environment more reactive as well. Certain smaller objects move out of Misu’s way so the environment feels more alive.

I also started working on the fundamentals of a quest system. As shown in the video, I have a working retrieval quest and “go to this place” quest. Other quest types can easily be built on top as well as new quests added.

Most obviously, I started using/ testing environment building using models from LMHPoly.

Last but not least, I created a bunch of social media accounts (TwitterInstagramTikTokKo-fi) under the account name Mu_Beans. I am not adept with posting to social media, but I would love to share what I am making with people so I will do my best!
